What is the difference between PVC and XLPE

The structural elements of wire and cable products can be generally divided into four main structural components of wire, insulation, shielding, and sheathing. For power cables, according to different insulating materials, low-voltage power cables are mainly the following two kinds: PVC insulated power cables and XLPE insulated power cables.

1, PVC insulated power cables

PVC plastic cheap, good physical and mechanical properties, the process is simple, but the insulation properties in general. Therefore, a large number of the manufacture of 1 kV and below low-voltage power cables for the low voltage distribution system.

2, XLPE insulated power cables

XLPE insulated cable is a suitable cable and other areas of distribution networks. Its simple structure, light weight, good heat resistance, load capacity, not melting, chemical resistance, high mechanical strength.

Difference between PVC and XLPE

PVC is a vinyl chloride polymer. It is chemically stable, acid, alkali and some chemicals erosion. It is resistant to moisture, anti-aging, flame retardant. It can not be used when the temperature exceeds 60 ℃, will harden at low temperature. PVC divided soft plastic and rigid plastic. Mainly made of soft film, for packaging materials, rain supplies, agricultural filming seedlings, but also for cables, wire insulation, artificial leather products. Rigid pipes and plates are generally made, pipes are used for water pipes and for delivery of corrosion-resistant fluid pipes, and the plates are used as linings and floors for various tanks.

XLPE is to improve the performance of PE is an important technology. After the cross-linked modified PE can be greatly improved its performance, not only significantly improve the mechanical properties of PE, environmental stress cracking resistance, the corrosion resistance of chemicals, creep resistance and electrical properties of comprehensive performance, and The temperature resistance of the PE is obviously improved. The heat-resistant temperature of PE can be raised from 70 ℃ to above 90 ℃, which greatly widens the application range of PE. Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is widely used in pipe, film, cable materials and foam products.
