warrior archangel costume with cable controlled wings

by:AAA     2021-01-13
I\'m the big Angel of Halloween.
The design I made works for me (6\'3\'\', 170 lbs)
, But can adjust any size and/or shape depending on what kind of winged creature you want to be.
The costume took about 40 hours of work and $200.
Most of the time and cost are spent on feathers, so time and cost are quite variable depending on your final design.
Components of the garment: Robe, armor, cloak, wings, aura, sword, sandals the robe you need: a white robe/pajamas/gown, enough white fabric to make the robe
I didn\'t have the sewing expertise to do it, so I bought a white robe at Goodwill for $10.
Armor: 2 yards brown upholstery
Feel free to use different leather or folds-
I spent a lot of money on the upholstery. .
Canvas or linen (
My old handbag made of canvas)
Gold Code No. 18 ~ 25 yards-
Suitable plating line for sizeCloak ~ 50 brass eyelets: 2.
5 yards navy blue artificial velvet (
Again, please feel free to use real-I did not)
Wing: 1x 2ft long, 2 in diameter PVC pipe (cut in half)2x 2ft long, 1.
PVC pipe 10ft in length and 1 in diameter (cut in half)2x 2in-1.
5in 45 degree PVC elbows5x 3ft long, 0.
5 In diameter pin ~ 1 lb white turkey feathers (
Depending on how fluffy you want your wings, you can use them more or less)
3 times 6 feet long white feathers
This design is enough.
I need the fourth one if the wings are bigger.
Enough white fabric (
Or other materials)
Stretch on wings
I used two single beds with an old sheet.
1 12x12x1in wooden board 6 wooden ironing board 2x nylon ratchet belt at least 4 feet long 5-foot steel cable (
The lowest rating I can find has a pound limit
This is a lot).
Velcro strapsStaple gunNOTE: it may be necessary to ask a friend for help when tying the cloak with the wings.
Halo: 3 yards 16 yards gold plated wireSword: 4 yards brown satin rib bona sword (
Mine is true, you can use props, or spears, or nothing --your choice).
Sandals: feel free to make sandals if you want.
I recommend using hemp or light wood and rope in Roman style shoes.
I used a brown leather flap.
The flip flops I have
Plenty of hot glue-tools/other materials
I used about 100 non-stick pliers (
Also called ring pliers)
Air duct tapePackaging tapeTwineNylon stringcyanoate-
Note: Propylene salt (CA)
Not only because it binds the skin together, but it also reacts violently with cotton (
(Fire suddenly).
Don\'t let it touch your skin, clothes, paper towels, etc.
Power drilling rotary tool universal tool with cutting drill bit and grinding drill bit set up safety equipment including at least goggles and respiratory system cut a newspaper into the general shape I want to use as a template (photo 1).
I cut the multi-layer white canvas with a template (
From the old canvas bag)
To give armor some thickness. I hot-
Stick these together. photos 2 and 3). I hot-
Make the frame by sticking the nylon rope with some metal wires (photo 4).
I cut out the pleats a little larger than the template (photo 5)
So I can fold the edges and glue them down with a hot glue (photo 6).
Congrats, you have a leather breastplate now!
The mail was sent after the jump.
Chain mail is a variant of Japan 2-6.
I wanted a more decorative look so I used one.
Rings with a diameter of 5, each 6 0.
5 In diameter ring-
Thanks to the user \"ineverfinishanyth\" for the guidance on the chain mail: not sure how many rings I need, so I made the rings in bulk.
How much you need depends on your design.
I wrapped a thread with a 0.
In order to make a coil that can be cut into a ring, 25 in pin.
My hand was cut out because it was very time consuming, so I decided to replace it with a drill bit.
Insert the pin into the drill (
Please wear safety goggles. photo 1).
Hold the drill bit with my feet, hold the top of the pin with one hand, hold the metal wire with the other hand, and start wrapping the wire with the hand until it holds the pin tightly.
Step on the trigger with your feet and tighten the metal (
Do not blow drill at full speed).
If you do it right, the pin will rotate and The Wire will rotate around it (photos 2 and 3).
This will leave you a circle of wires (photo 4).
Cut the wire along the length of the coil using a cut wire/pliers (photo 5)
Leave you a lot of bright rings (photo 6).
Because my drill bit is not big enough, I need to wrap the PVC of the big ring with a wire (photo 7).
The same concept applies-
Cut off the coil and make a large opening ring. Japanese 6-in-
Chain mail is a very simple design.
It may be easier to do this on a carpet or sofa (
Give things)
So you can hang the ring on the ring lying on the surface.
Take a big ring and put 6 small rings on it (photo 1).
Take another large ring, put five small rings on it, and cycle into a small ring from the first ring (photo 2).
The next big ring needs four small rings.
The other two came from the previous ring (photo 3).
Continue to do so in a circle
The last big ring needs 3 small rings, and 3 rings are taken from the surrounding (photo 4).
At this point, each ring in the perimeter should have 3 loose little rings.
Keep doing this until you get the shape you want.
I also want to put an ornament in the center, so I made a complete ringPersian weave (photo 5).
It is more complicated. The instructions can be found here :(
Thanks again to user \"ineverfinishanyth \").
I have attached 6 large rings to the Persian ring to form a decorative form (photos 6 and 7).
I attached this to Japan\'s 2-
Weave until it looks like mail armor (photo 8).
Congrats to you, your chain mail has been completed!
Connect it to the base after jumping.
I laid the fabric on the base (photo 1).
I cut 2 inch long folds and cut the eyelet through both ends (photo 2).
I stuck these on the base and put the mail on the base.
I wasn\'t too worried about stability, so I ended up hot sticking Persian weaving and a lot of rings.
I added three straps with holes to the bottom of the armor to make it look more complete (photo 3).
Note: I think the decorative rings look like flowers.
My brother told me that it looks like Iron Man. it\'s not necessarily a bad thing, but it\'s not my intention.
You may consider this issue if you use this design.
Congrats to you, your chain letter and leather armor have been completed!
Then there are wings and cloaks.
Because we need two wings, we will do it twice in the mirror image of each other.
When using power tools on PVC, please wear safety goggles and respirator
It\'s just PVC.
Carve a notch at one end of 2ft 1.
Diameter of PVC pipe 5
Called \"short tube\" from here \"(photo 1).
Use a rotary tool to scrape off the side of one end of a PVC pipe with a diameter of 5ft 1
Called \"long tube\" from here \"(photo 2).
This gap is so that the long tube can be placed in the gap of the short tube to form a joint.
Drilling at the end of a long pipe (
Through the pipe section where you don\'t have a shave)
Then pass the steel cable through it.
To create the joint, you need to install the long pipe into the cut-out of the short pipe.
Drill a hole in the entire rig and slide the bolts into it.
Where are you doing this depends on you-
The more prominent parts you leave, the easier it will be to open with a cable, but the more unrealistic the wing looks (photo 3).
I wrapped some extra wires around the top of the short tube to keep it closed and then used a lot of tape and packing tape and it worked great.
So, you have 2 1 for each wing.
5ft pieces, 1ft pieces and 3ft pieces (
You still have some piles left).
Create two triangles. The 1.
5ft pins are attached to the short tube and 1ft and 3ft pins are attached to the long tube.
I fixed these triangles on the frame with hot glue, nylon and tape and reinforced it with CA.
Note: connect the triangle to the relative side of the wing plane-
This will prevent them from colliding with each other when they are on and off.
Connect the short pipe to a 1ft 2 in diameter pipe using a PVC elbow-
Called \"structural pipe\" from now on \"(photo 4).
You will have two mirrored wings when you finish twice (
Note: the \"mirror\" applies when closed, the upper part of the wing is in front of the lower part of the wing).
Lay the structural pipe on the board (photo 5 -
Show at the top of the cloak and we will check in the next step).
The pool table in my house is the only big table in the basement, which is why I took pictures there.
I did it on the workbench.
Connect the pipe to the board using drill bits and screws-
Make sure they are at the angle you want (
It\'s symmetrical. .
Congrats, you have the skeleton of your wings now!
After the jump, the cloak came.
This cloak is easy.
The fabric is a little too wide for my shoulder (
Wide 44)
So I stuck both sides in.
As shown in the last photo of Step 5).
I know that the board will be the \"backpack\" of the wings and will hang under my shoulder blades so that I can move my arms comfortably in it.
I measured this relationship to the cloak.
About 4 feet from the bottom (
The cloak is the floor. length).
I cut two sets of cuts into the middle of the fabric from 4 feet at the bottom.
A set of gaps is based on the distance between structural pipes
This will allow me to feed PVC pipes through the fabric to cover the board with a cloak.
The other pair of gaps will allow the metal cable to pass down to me (photos 1 and 2).
Congrats, your cloak is attached to the frame of the wings!
Wings after jumping.
This part is by far the most expensive and time consuming.
There are thousands of feathers here, most of which are arranged and bonded separately.
Note: this requires a lot of repetition and hot glue
It\'s easy to get distracted and burn yourself, so be careful.
First of all, cut your fabric into the right size so it fits the triangle on the wing skeleton.
Remove short and long tubes (the \"wing\")
From wooden boards and structural pipes (the \"backpack\").
Glue the fabric to the skeleton (photos 1-3).
Now we can add a lot of feathers.
I wanted the wings to have a fluffy angelic look, so I replaced the long feathers with Turkish feathers.
They are smaller and therefore need more work, but they look softer.
To direct the feathers in the right direction (
To the bottom of the wing)
Then stick the feathers to the fabric with hot glue.
Start at the bottom and work up so that each layer covers the top of the previous layer (Photos 4 and 5-
It is difficult to distinguish between white fabric and feathers, but there are continuous rows of feathers).
Continue to glue the feathers until you finish the triangle (photo 6).
Then do the same for every other part of the skeleton, including the front and back (photo 7).
Do this for both wings.
To make the wings look fuller, I cover the exposed part with boas and fill in the blanks.
Stick a boa along the long and short tubes (photos 8-10).
Note: do not stick the boa where the short pipe meets the PVC elbow.
I wrapped a part of a boa in the prominent part of the long tube (photo 11 -
Peacock feathers in the background are for friends, not for this project).
Then, when opened, I glued a part of the boa to the 1ft pin attached to the long tube to fill the space between the upper and lower wings.
Double Wing repetition (photo 12).
Congrats, you have wings now!
The sword and belt are after the jump.
I collect weapons so it\'s not hard for me to find a sword.
I chose a little crusader.
Aesthetic modeling-i. e. it was cross-shaped (photo 1).
If you don\'t have a sword, you can use props or find a real sword in many cutlery shops or museums.
I removed the central part of the knife sheath, wore it through the knife sheath with a brown satin band, and then collected it back (photos 2 and 3).
Make sure you wrap around the waist two or three times with enough ribbons.
Congrats, you can wear your sword now!
Do a halo after jumping.
For Halo, I used a very simple 4-in-1 chain.
In a word, put the two rings together.
Starting from here, you loop each continuous ring into the two rings in front.
Keep doing this until the chain is large enough to wrap your head around and close the chain (photo 1).
If you cycle each new ring from the same side every time, you get a good twist (As shown in the photo).
If you alternate (i. e.
Enter a loop from the front of the chain, enter the next loop from the back, and so on)
You will get a flat chain.
Congrats, you have a halo now!
Put everything together after the jump.
I gently beat the short pipe on the structural pipe with a mallet.
I managed to make them tight enough that I didn\'t need to use PVC cement, which took an extra step.
Make sure the wings are slightly tilted with your back (
So they don\'t rub)
Is symmetrical (photos 1 and 2).
I have hot sticky some extra feathers on PVC elbows and cloaks to cover up the joints (photo 3 -
This is an awkward angle: A friend photographed me standing behind the wing with a board).
I attached the ratchet strap to the board with a DingTalk gun (photo 4).
I glued the leather armor to the strap on my shoulder and then reinforced it with a hemp rope (photos 5 and 6).
This will allow me to put on wings and armor at the same time, the armor at the front, the wings at the back, a bit like wearing a weight vest or a football pad.
Feed the cable through the holes on the cloak.
I feed every wing to the hand opposite (
From right to left and vice versa)
Because compared to each hand that controls the same flank, it has fewer mechanical disadvantages.
Congrats, you are ready to put on your costume!
The first few times I wear it, I need help from my friends.
I wore a rib tank underwear and mesh shorts as they were comfortable and unobtrusive.
I put on my white robe and tied my brown belt to my waist.
Note: tie it around two or three times so that the sword will tighten the other rings as it will pull down the rings it connects.
Put this sword in your waist.
Let your friend hold the board on the shoulder height so you can slip under the armor.
Put it on and tighten the ratchet belt until it grabs your shoulder.
I wrapped the extra ratchet straps around my belt and stuffed the cables into the back belt so I could grab them easily (photo 1 -
This shows what happened under armor.
In the final costume, the armor is attached to the strap and hung in front of you).
When I was wearing it, my friend hot glued two pieces of hemp rope to the opposite sides of the armor near my waist so I could tie it flat to my chest.
You can do this before putting it on, I just didn\'t expect it.
At this point, my friend also put down the velcro strap on the armor and cloak.
We are doing this now to make sure that the cloak covers all the ratcheting bands and hangs neatly.
Walk into your sandals and Bobby nail the halo on his head and you can go!
Pull the wires and cables to open the wings, let them go, and gravity will turn them off (photos 2 and 3).
Their wingspan reached 9 feet.
The whole dress weighs about 20 pounds.
Congrats, you are now a Archangel warrior! (
Even if only in appearance and spirit
Don\'t try to pull Carlos! )
Recycling option/secondary: I wore this dress at the party and it was really fun until it turned into a dance party when it was big, not moving and very hot.
I went back to the room below the hall, took off my wings and armor and tied a red cloak on my back (
From different unrelated costumes
You can use a cloak of any color).
I put on the halo as a crown and told everyone I was Caesar.
It\'s like a charm.
